Those of you that know me are aware that I’ve taken a few days off from work. The number one question I get when people hear that I’m not working is, “Where are you going?” When I reply that I’m not going anywhere, it baffles just about anyone who hears it.
“Why not?” is the reaction that I usually receive. In short there are three reasons I don’t go anywhere when I’m “on vacation.” The first is that I already travel pretty regularly for my job and to be perfectly honest, it’s not exactly relaxing. Between the hassle of air travel, noisy hotel air conditioners and trying to figure out where to get dinner every night, I’d rather not deal with it.
The second reason is that I don’t really have anyone to go with. When I travel for work I almost always travel alone, and it’s not fun, so why would I want to do that on my own dime? If I had a travel companion, or if I was meeting up with people, it’d be a different story.
Lastly, it comes down to money. I travel enough for work to know that it’s at least a couple hundred dollars per day to go out of town. I don’t stay at flea bag motels, but I also don’t stay at five star accommodations. At this point in my life I don’t have a thousand or more dollars to hang out by myself somewhere far from home.
In the end, a vacation to me is a time to relax and just, well, not work. That’s what I’ve been doing and it’s been nice to just “be.”

You could add that you already live in a very nice area that other people actually come to for their vacation.
