57 Channels (And Nothin’ On)

Bruce Springsteen may have come out with the song 19 years ago, but even in 2011, with hundreds of choices on television, it seems like everything is either a reality show, a blatant ripoff of a reality show, “news” about something that is hardly newsworthy or mindless garbage.

Sure, I watch TV just like most people, and I’ll never become one of those smug hipsters interjecting into any conversation about a television show how they don’t even own a TV, but recently it seems like the number of shows worth watching is dwindling. The good side to this is that I’ve been doing a lot more reading, of fiction and non-fiction. Currently I’m enjoying two books, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling (a big thanks to my friend Vanessa for loaning me the series and getting me hooked) and The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough. What are you reading?

  1. I LOVE David McCullough. His Adams biography is a stunning portrayal of the his courage and idealism. And his accounting of the Revolution in “1776” makes me wonder how it was possible we won.

    • I’ve heard good things about both of those titles, but I wanted to choose some of his earlier work. It’s also about Pennsylvania, so that’s a plus.
